BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

THE OPPORTUNITY

The business development manager is responsible for improving market position and the commercial sales growth through long term relationships with agencies, brokers, and groups and by developing plans and value propositions in the markets we participate (DHMO, PPO, and ACA). They work in conjunction with agent relations and marketing to align activity aimed at achieving the company’s strategic target and sales goals. The BDM works closely with the operations manager and reports to the VP of Business Development. 

Your responsibilities: 

  • Develops strategic sales plan

  • Evaluates and prioritizes opportunities in conjunction with strategy

  • Negotiates and closes deals

  • Designs & launches product plans in line with market penetration opportunities

  • Assists in the development of sales/marketing spend

  • Develops and delivers modern and relevant presentations

  • Analyzes competition to improve market position

  • Delivers strong and compelling written/verbal communication

  • Fosters new and existing relationships

Accountable for:

  • Results – meets or exceeds goals

  • Prospecting, follow up, and lead generation

  • Large group commercial bid RFQ/RFP completion & award

  • Strategic account management, delivering key messages & needs of those accounts

  • Planning for and coordination of marketing activities

  • Market placement/competitive analysis

  • Alignment of outgoing materials with company brand/voice

  • Plan design development, approval, and successful launch

  • Website content update requests to meet market changes

  • Social media outreach plan with content aligned to strategic objectives

  • Marketing campaign ROI

  • SEO and spending recommendations

WHO YOU ARE

Qualifications:  

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree and/or 4-6 years insurance experience

  • Driven to achieve results, self-motivated and able to motivate a selling and marketing team

  • Understands sales CRM tools

  • Able to communicate at all levels both internal and external to the organization

  • Passionate about developing relationships

  • Appreciates strong customer service focus

  • Enjoys a collaborative work environment

  • Understands decision making functions at leadership levels

  • Flexible for internal and external meetings; some light travel
